“bs: a look @ bus stops in Miami-Dade”

The state of bus stops in Miami-Dade County is evident. No words are needed to understand the fleeting moments that I capture in my latest exhibition “bs: a look @ bus stops in Miami Dade.” Living in the heart of Miami has helped focus my lens to the needs of our community as I witness the struggles of daily transit.
The photographs in this exhibition come from over 700 images I’ve catalogued over the past four years of bus stops in the Miami area. The images connect viewers with bus commuters on their daily grind, documenting the silent, enduring plight of waiting for public transportation in the heart… and heat… of Miami. We pass by bus stops daily, whether we knowingly acknowledge the people on the sidewalks or not. I ask the viewer what role our subconscious plays in how we participate with our urban surroundings. By focusing on bus stops in this collection, I am creating a direct connection to what I consider invisible moments.
Let this exhibition stimulate positive change. Simple design modifications to public transit stops can increase the safety and wellbeing of riders. With strong consideration to the people that rely on our buses for transportation, my images promote reflection, purpose, and intention by identifying how urban aesthetics should play an integral role in our commute.
