Calypso Music In Postwar America: Photographs and Illustrations, 1945-1960

Friday Feb 25, 2005 - Sunday Jun 5, 2005

This exhibition explores the major impact of Trinidadian calypso music on the popular culture of the United States between 1945 and 1960. Rare photographs and promotional graphics that trace calypso in the American record industry, song publishing, nightclub acts, concerts, Broadway shows and Hollywood movies will be on display. Much of the material is from the private collection of Ray Funk, a popular music researcher based in Fairbanks, Alaska. Additional items are from a variety of archives in the United States, the United Kingdom and Trinidad.
